GreenTech Geek: Comic-Con 2013 – Vikings! Run!

I hopped on the scooter and headed downtown at lunch to check out The Vikings Pavilion, the expansive exhibition set up at 2nd Avenue and Island Street, just outside Comic Con, to showcase the popular History Channel series about my ancestors.

Most of the cast was there, signing autographs and laughing it up with the throngs of Comic Con attendees who showed up. All that … and I got a free ice cream sandwich too!

See the Viking stars I saw and more pics from my quick lunch run … after the jump …

All hail Viking King Ragnar Lothbrok  (Travis Fimmel,
right) and his brother Rollo (Clive Standen).
Hey, since when to VIKINGS need
security guards?  I mean, really.
This picture got me a free ice cream sandwich.
Baby got … bag.
My lunch run was not without conflict.
Immediately after snapping this picture, these
innocent bystanders were set upon by this
motley crew marauding through the streets
of downtown San Diego …
… guess who came out on top?
Hey, not a bad gig if you can get it.

GreenTech Geek: Comic-Con 2013 – The Tote Bags of Comic Con

Every Comic Con attendee receives a tote bag filled with a few goodies when they check in at the event. All number of studios and entertainment companies see these bags as prime promotional opportunities for their latest TV shows, movies, and assorted other ‘next big things.’

Bouncing around on the backs of attendees, the bags jockey for position and attention among the dizzying array of costumed characters, booths, break-out-sessions, and general mayhem characterizing any good Comic Con.

I was at Preview Night last night, and after the jump are some of the bags I managed to catch on film.

By the way, on Friday, July 19 I’ll be in full GreenTech Geek mode at Comic Con, attending the Engadget+gdgt Live event at Stingaree, where all sorts of the latest tech gadgets will be on display.  It’s being billed as the only tech event in the country that brings together gadget lovers with many of the companies that make those gadgets.  If you’re a tech geek like me, you might wanna check it out.

Now, for those tote bags …

Oh yeah, here’s the coolest Comic Con tote bag of all, snagged by yours truly at one of the booths on the Comic Con floor …

We’ll meet again, friends.

GreenTech Geek: Tech Gone Wild!

Um … what’s going on here?

Well howdy there!  Been a long time.  Too long.  Certain powers that be have dangled tempting fruit before my eyes and twisted my arm just so … resulting in my return at last to the cyber-pages of Tea with Lemon.

I return with a post on on technology gone haywire.  It happened today at the George Zimmerman trial in Seminole County, Florida (why do such strange things always happen in Florida?).

Anyway, see a description and unbelievable video of what happened — and find out what the GreenTech Geek has been doing these past several weeks while turning his back on Tea with Lemon — after the jump.

Here’s an article about, and a look at, the tech wackiness which consumed the George Zimmerman trial today in Florida:

Since I know you’re wondering — NO, I was not one of the prankster Skyping Mr. Pleasants during his testimony.  I can stoop pretty low for a story … but not quite that low.

And now, let’s talk about me. I’ve been a bit busy lately, doing things like:

Meeting the nephew of Harvey Milk, Stewart Milk, at the Harvey Milk Memorial Bench in Balboa Park — the first public memorial for a gay man anywhere in San Diego — during the First Annual Harvey Milk/José Sarria Memorial Lunch, which I also co-organized with Caleb.

Visiting buffalo on the prairies of Kansas with family, while in the state for my niece’s high school graduation.

Soaking up the atmosphere (and trying some of the local brew) in the Live Music Capital of America — Austin, Texas — while in the state for my nephew’s high school graduation.
Leading San Diego’s one and only LGBTQ scooter club, the San Diego Sqooterheads.

And hosting scooter riders from around the country in town for Amerivespa 2013 — the nation’s largest annual gathering of Vespa/scooter riders — on a High on Hillcrest / Stonewall Anniversary Ride and Stonewall Anniversary Scooter Roundup under the Hillcrest Pride Flag for the 44th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, which gave birth to the modern LGBTQ rights movement.
So that’s what the GreenTech Geek‘s been up to.  How about you?
